For the first time, having known little to nothing about either of the films or their director. I thought it'd just be another routine, standard anime experience.

I don't even know what to say, honestly. I mean, I think there's only one way I can go about expressing how I feel.

:bigyaa:

Life is shiny again. :D

Any recommendations on what to see next?

I've only seen three Miyazaki movies, the two you mentioned and Princess Mononoke, which is my favorite by far. It was also the first one I saw though so I'm not sure it would have the same impact now that you're used to his style.

While I liked Ponyo, it's pretty much an hour and a half that goes nowhere but looks great doing it. The only movie he's made I didn't care for was Castle in the Sky.

I saw Castle in the Sky but I honestly can't recall a single thing about that movie. Nausicaa gave me 'nam flashbacks to that freaky giant bug from Crystalis.

Nausicaa's alright. The main character is boring. : /

You saw my favorites though so I have nothing further to say.

Studio Ghibli films are my reason for bothering with BluRay.

Spirited Away is my absolute favorite. I mean, if I went all SERIOUS CRITIC on his movies I might end up saying one's better, but it's the one I enjoyed the most. Only one I've seen that didn't particularly stay with me was Howl's Moving Castle.

Ponyo was really enjoyable on an emotional level, even if I could make plenty of complaints it on a story level.

Seeing it in HD with an 1080i upconverter DVD makes the movie so sexy.

I think he's still reeling from seeing Akira in HD.

Paprika is surprisingly more tasteful then that movie, considering what Satoshi Kon is capable of.
