Rika Furude Simulator '25 simply would not exist without Toad22484's streaming Rika Furude Simulator '24 daily for about two months.

It was on a fateful stream November 19th, 2024 that a user named "bou6g" in chat asked me if there would be a '25 version of Rika.

While my replies were initially joking that I would simply update the game and change the logo from '24 to '25, things, as they do when I'm involved, spiraled and a good portion of this fateful stream actually ended up being the impetus for me opening GameMaker then and there and starting work on this game.

You can watch the original stream here.

My original intent really was to just release an entirely new version of this game with the only difference being the title screen update, but, "Why stop there," I thought? And thus, I spent the next five or so hours dropping in all the new content that would round out Rika Furude Simulator '25.

I added about 20 or so backgrounds and all of Rika's outfits from the visual novels and they all get shuffled every time the game boots up. I also made some smart UI improvements like including the Tragic Fates count on the main game screen.

The game released a couple days later and over the next few months I found myself adding more and more little surprises and silly things here and there to end up with the version of the game we have now. This whole thing came a hell of a lot farther than I think I ever expected it to, especially since the first game was just a one-off joke that somehow caught on a little bit. Rika Furude Simulator '25 is eactly the kind of leaning into a very dumb joke that I have the most fun with, and I'm happy that folks have enjoyed.

I dunno that there'll be a '26 version because I feel like I've done all I can with the idea without expanding it in some way or just adding more assets from the visual novels, which isn't super appealing to me. Still, this little thing has a lot of wind in its sails and the fact that something so silly can catch even a little bit of recognition like that is really fun for me.
