Your Top Three Games of 2017 List Due Date
December 5th, 2017

There's still plenty of time to get your top three games of 2017 list all spiffied up and sent off to us, but during this time of year time tends to slip away from everyone pretty fast, so you don't have forever.

The final due date to have your list read on the Sockscast Game of the Year episodes will be the evening of December 16th, so it's time to start getting that together.

End of the Year Sockscast Listener List Submissions!
November 28th, 2017

It's gettin' to be about that time of year again, and as usual, your pals at Sockscast Inc. are gearing up for those big end of the year podcasts. And just like every year, you too can be a part of the festivities. Here's all ya have to do!:

1. Create a list of three games you played this year that are your absolute favorites. No, the games don't have to have been released this year. If you played it this year and it stuck with you, it's just as valid as any other entry.

2. Write a little bit about why each game is on your list. Let's be responsible here too, folks. We're not gonna read novels. Three or four sentences should be more than enough.

3. Shoot that list on over to podcast[at-sign] That there's the easy step!

So, we're gonna go ahead and let you get to that and update you on the end-of-the-year content schedule here in a couple weeks or so!

Happy listing!

Also, Now is the time to start thinking about your top 3 games of the year. As usually, we'll be taking reader lists for the end of the year shows, so now's the time to start thinking, and we'll have an announcement ready for how you can get those to us soon.

Sockscast Update and our 3rd Anniversary Live Show!
July 19th, 2017

Hello! Are you enjoying your summer? I AM! Winter sucks! But that's not really why we're here today! We're here to discuss some pretty important info regarding the Sockscast and our upcoming livecast in August to celebrate three years of having done this really dumb show we do!

So, no point in trying to sugarcoat it or drag the first announcement out. The Sockscast will be taking a 2-3 month break starting now (even though we didn't get to record an episode this past weekend due to me having a bad sinus infection and bronchitis.) There's a lot that kinda went into this decision, and I'll admit it's mostly me, but I'll try to keep it brief.

Doing a podcast like the Sockscast requires a good bit of media consumption in order to participate and actually, ya know, have things to talk about, and for a while that's simply not where my head's been. Since the release of Her Lullaby back in February, I've found myself in a more creative space and wanting to work on other games/media that I currently have in production. Actually playing games or doing other things you'd wanna talk about on a podcast has been much less attractive to me than wanting to take time and indulge in those more creative ventures. Games are just boring to me right now, or at least PLAYING them is, and I don't like the feeling of forcing myself to play them when that's just not what I feel like doing. It leaves me at odds with how I want to spend my free time, and with feeling I HAVE to play or watch things for the sake of making a podcast happen, I feel I'm stretching my free time too thin and end up not wanting to do anything out of frustration.

So, for now, the Sockscast is gonna take a break for a bit. I'm sure this is kind of a bummer to some of you, and it's even a bummer to me because it's a show I still like doing (especially since we recently adopted a new recording schedule and tighter format), but I don't wanna force it. So, the Sockscast isn't going away forever. I just think residing in the creative bubble I feel I'm in is a lot more exciting right now than forcing myself to do things for something to talk about on a podcast. Rhete's also not keen on doing the show without the three of us, and I don't really wanna force him to do things he doesn't want to do either.

We hope everybody understands and we'll be back with regular bi-weekly episodes later in the year.

That said, we can move onto some other important business!

On August 24th, 2014 the Sockscast debuted its first episode, and sometime around August 24th (either on the date or maybe that weekend) we're currently planning a live show that'll be streamed on Twitch and on the mainpage here. We plan to get together for a few hours, shoot the shit, interact with our chat, and have some really cool people on to just talk about whatever as a celebration of sorts! We don't have things finalized yet, but when we do, it'll be posted about right here on the mainpage (as well as the Sockscast site's page) so keep an eye out for that.

In closing, if you made it to the end of this, congratulations! You didn't win anything, but congratulations all the same! Thanks for reading and understanding!

John Thyer's Kikai Is Now Available!
May 13th, 2017

Finally, the day has come! We've heard John talk about it for years now and finally it's here for us all to enjoy!

Inspired largely by Ecco The Dolphin's "Welcome To The Machine" auto-scrolling nightmare of a stage, Kikai takes the concept and adds its own spin with a unique atmosphere, slick and easy controls, solid stage design, and a solid soundtrack on top of all that.

You're guaranteed to have yourself a great time!

Sockscast Episode 67
May 1st, 2017

Sockscast Episode 67
Run Time: 1:35:12 / File Size: 43.5MB
Opening Theme: "We Are The Only Ones That Love You" by Taylor

John kept insisting that this episode be named "The Rhohncast," but Rhete and I would have none of it, and cooler, smarter heads prevailed in this situation. You're all very welcome.

This time, we got a Rhete and John only special and it finds John following up his dive into horror games after completing his Amnesia: The Dark Descent playthrough with some SOMA and tossing some Resident Evil on top of it for good measure. Rhete's still not able to get over his Phantasy Star Online 2 kick and he REALLY wants to get Inside you, and we also get a healthy discussion about the recently released flick Get Out.

Thanks for listening!

The New Sockscast Site And A Couple Changes
April 18th, 2017

After last week's kerfuffle, we have a new Sockscast site up and running. Sure, it's not as spiffy and doesn't offer the same organizational tools that blog software features, but it does look more in tune with the site's overall design, and it's a lot more secure. So, all new episodes going forward will appear there (and on the mainapge, obviously.)

Secondly, I've removed the "Random" and "Links" pages because they were horribly out of date and served no purpose. Currently they go to empty pages, but I'll be updating the functions to link to the podcast and our Discord soon, along with a new banner and set of buttons to kinda spiffy the place up a bit.

That's all for now!

So, Here's What's Going On...
April 13th, 2017

Socksmakepeoplesexy.Net's webhost has been going to the shitter for the last three or so years. They were sold to a larger entity, and over time I started noticing that the site's overall speed was dropping, we were experiencing more downtime than we had previously, and customer service expediency and willingness to help in situations where the site needed it had plummeted. The latest outage, having lasted over 24 hours, was met with no response at all from customer support, informing me that the site had been "suspended" but nobody seemed to know why. Even the email I received made no mention of what was actually the issue. And so, it was time to pack the ol' bags and head for (hopefully) greener pastures.

And so, here we are. On a new host. Go ahead and drink it in.

Anyway, since we've moved to a new host and I'm still in the middle of getting everything back up and running, there are likely things on the site that are probably broken or perhaps missing. We're working on it. Right now we're in the middle of trying to sort out the Sockscast situation. The biggest issue at the moment, is the Sockscast's blog system had to go. Too many damn security holes and I honestly don't have time or patience to deal with them. But we're working on a solution that should be fully realized within the next week or so.

In the mean time, Sockscast episodes can be found here. It's not elegant, and it may never be quite as elegant as what we had, but for now we're just gonna use the page the Sockscast RSS feed scrapes for updates. Alternatively, you can use the Sockscast RSS feed directly to keep up with and listen to older episodes. (NOTE: As I'm currently in the state of getting everything back up, episodes may not yet be available. This will all be sorted soon.)

That's all I can really think of at the moment. I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience and confusion this has likely caused. I'll be sure to post critical updates and what have you on the SMPS twitter feed @SMPS_Updates, so there's another way you can keep up with things.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

And have I mentioned that god damn, you're lookin' FINE today?

Getcha some!!

Her Lullaby is Now Available!
February 14th, 2017

Happy Valentine's Day from myself and John Thyer to you!

Today, me and John are launching a pretty big project we've been working on since the first week of December, and you can grab yourself a copy of it right up there in the ol' linkeroo.

Her Lullaby is a horror-themed visual novel full of mystery, drama, violence, and emotion. It draws from many of our influences and personal experiences and is a game we're both very proud of, and we couldn't be happier to finally be sharing this thing with all of you.

We had a lot of help along the way and we want to send a huge shout out to the following people:

Carmichael Micaalus for his awesome character art and designs.
S. Broka for the amazingly moody and atmopsheric score (which is included with every download!)
Shiori Haino for all the extra coding help.
Andrea Ritsu for one of the game's final key pieces of art.
And After5, Ghosty, S. Broka, and wasnotwhynot for beta testing and offering lots of great feedback.

Most of all, Her Lullaby is a big fat "THANK YOU" to everyone that has inspired us to want to create. Without your wonderful creations, this game wouldn't exist. You've given of yourself and put cool things out into the world for people to enjoy, and we offer our thanks by doing the same.

We hope you enjoy and feel free to send feedback!

Loves to you all.

-Polly and John

Danilo Dias and Thais Weiller of JoyMasher, makers of fun retro throwbacks Oniken, Odallus: The Dark Call, and the upcoming Blazing Chrome took some time out of their busy schedules to sit down and have a chat with Polly about game design, the creation of their games, and what we can look forward to in the future from them!

A huge thank you to both Danilo and Thais for letting me have the chance to sit down and have a chat with them. We hope you enjoy!

Our Special Guest: Samurai Karasu

A new year, a new Sockscast! Well...I mean it's a new episode, not that we're necessarily doing anything new. That said, we start the year off by welcoming back our good pal and Power Rangers blogger (no, seriously!) Samurai Karasu. This episode is jam packed with lots of fun discussion about console flashcarts, robots, genies, pretty boys on road trips, and the precious cinnamon rolls of Danganronpa. We may also figure out what NES game is worth still paying $50 for!

Game Playin' and Dragon Slayin'
January 2nd, 2017

Happy New Year from your pals over here at Socksmakepeoplesexy.Net! We hope you enjoy everything we'll be throwing your way this year, what with all the podcasts and stuff we do now, plus hey, maybe there'll be some writing and stuff. I know of a certain large list of games you all wrote stuff for that'll be appearing here very soon...

But that's not why we're here today! We're here to talk about game reviews. You guys remember those? Man...those were the days, right?

Well, what would you say if I served you up a hot-off-the-presses review of 7th Dragon III: Code VFD for 3DS? Man, it'd be weird if I did something like that, huh?

People actually reading websites these days. HAHA! God, can you even imagine?
