#10 - Soulcalibur (Arcade)

A good storyline is something a fighting game almost never has. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter had stories that seemed tacked on just to have something there. Granted, a good story doesn't make a good game, but Soulcalibur was an incredible game with a deep story. You were Mitsurugi, fighting to master the katana and defeat the rifle. You were Nightmare, fighting against the Soul Edge to redeem Siegfried. You were Voldo, fi... oh forget it, Voldo was just [REDACTED]ed.

Bonus points: Nightmare.

#9 - TIE Fighter (PC)

I had a joystick wired to my computer for several years of college. It only experienced two things, Microsoft Flight Simulator and TIE Fighter. Let's just say that the warnings stating the joystick contains chemicals found by the state of California to cause greening of the skin are a lie, else I'd be an Orc now.

Bonus points: Playing as the Empire.

#8 - Dynasty Warriors 3 (PS2)

The whole One Super Warrior Fighting Hordes of Little Guys that's so common now was mastered by Koei in its series of Dynasty Warriors games. I liked the idea of controlling a legendary warrior chopping down his master's enemies like they were wheat. The added bonus (?) of maxing out levels on all of your characters also gave this game an added touch for obsessive-compulsives.

Bonus points: The only game that ever made me read a book. A really, really long book.

#7 - Megaman 2 (NES)

Perhaps the attachment toward this game comes from it being the first Megaman game I ever played. Nostalgia aside, it does excel at pretty much everything: Great music, large and colorful stages, and something sadly missing from many of its sequels, UNIQUE AND USEFUL WEAPONS. WE DO NOT WANT EIGHT DIFFERENT HORIZONTAL PROJECTILES WHAT ABOUT VARIETY AND UTILITY WEAPONS AULGHALGHALGHALGUGH

Bonus points: The metal blade. It's never going to be that good again.

#6 - Super Mario 64 (N64)

WE CAN DO THAT? First response to Super Mario 64.

Once again, the sandbox approach works every time. All we really need is a huge world to explore and smash stuff in. Add Super Mario and a variety of delicious powerups and you have the second best launch title ever. Nintendo at what they do best.

Bonus points: Stomping around Tiny-Huge Land as Huge Mario.
